Bhat qualifies PhD

KATRA, Oct 27: Mr. Gh. Rasool Bhat has successfully defended his doctoral degree, titled "Genetic Char-acterisation of Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma in Patients from Jammu and Kashmir" and has become eligible for the award of the degree of Doct-oral of Philoso-phy (Ph. D) in Biotechnology at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra.
Mr. Bhat worked under the supervision of Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Cancer Genetics Research Group, School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, Katra.
During his oral defense, Padma Shri Prof. RK Sinha, Vice -Chancellor, SMVDU and Prof. V K Bhat Dean College of Sciences and Head, SoBT Dr. Sharada Potukuchi, SMVDU were present, and they congratulated him for the successful Ph.D. Viva Voce defence.
Dr. Gh. Rasool Bhat has published his work in national and international peer reviewed journals. He received JBM Gold Medal, Young Scientist Award and LBN Scroll of Honor during this thesis tenure. The focus of his study was the genetic exploration of non-small cell lung cancer within the population of Jammu and Kashmir.
The findings from his study revealed the complex genetic mechanism and highlighted the role of critical genes and other associated pathways using high throughput molecular techniques.
He acknowledged Department of Science & Technology, Government of India [DST/ SSTP/ J&K/ 459] for the fellowship availed during the tenure.
Dr. Gh. Rasool Bhat will join the Postdoctoral Fellowship in Department of Genetics, University of Virginia, USA.
