3 BJP workers shot dead in Kulgam; Resistance Front claims responsibility

Srinagar, Oct 29: Three BJP workers were shot dead by militants in Kulgam district on Thursday, police said. The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a shadow group of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the killings.
Fida Hussain, Umer Hajam and Umer Rashid Beigh were shot by militants in Y K Pora area of Kulgam district late on Thursday evening, a police official said.
He said the trio was rushed to a local hospital at Qazigund where doctors declared them dead on arrival. In a message in English and Hindi on its social media account, the TRF said "crematoriums will get overbooked".
Militants have since June stepped up attacks on BJP workers and leaders in the union territory, killing eight of them so far.
In a similar attack in Bandipora in July, a BJP leader, his father and brother were killed by the ultras.
However, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has strongly condemned the killings of political workers who were shot dead by the militants in Qazigund area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district. Expressing his anguish over the killings, the Lt Governor said that the perpetrators of violence are the enemies of humanity and such cowardly acts can not be justified.
Law shall take its course and the guilty shall be dealt with sternly, he added.
The Lt Governor assured all the possible help from the government to the bereaved families.
He also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.
However, a police spokesperson said that at about 2020 hours Kulgam Police received information about a terror crime incident at village Y.K.Pora where terrorists had fired upon three BJP workers. Senior police officers reached at the terror crime spot.
Preliminary investigation revealed that terrorists fired upon three BJP workers identified as Fida Hussain Yatoo son of Ghulam Ahmad Yatoo resident of Y.K.Pora (BJP District Youth General secretary), Umer Rashid Beigh son of Abdul Rasheed Beigh resident of SophatDevsar (BJP worker) and Umer Ramzan Hajam son of Mohd Ramzan resident of Y.K.Pora (BJP worker) at EidgahY.K.Pora due to which they got injured. They were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment where they were declared as brought dead.
Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this terror crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on.
