New Delhi, Nov 8: National Students' Union of India (NSUI) carried out a protest lead by NSUI National President Neeraj Kundan against Demoneti-zation announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8th November 2016.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that the action would curtail the shadow economy and reduce the utilisation of illicit and counterfeit cash used to fund illegal activities and terrorism. The announcement of demonetisation was followed by prolonged cash shortages in the weeks that followed, leading to consequential turmoil throughout the economy. People seeking to exchange their banknotes had to endure lengthy queues, which led to several deaths due to the rush to exchange cash.
This experiment by the BJP-led central government resulted in effects that the people of India are yet to recover from. The immense loss of employment and businesses was and still seems to be irreparable. India at present faces the lowest GDP in the last 45 years and this massive downfall of India's growing economy is a direct result of demonetisation.
Today's protest commenced from NSUI Office, 5 Raisaina Road, New Delhi to Reserve Bank of India, New Delhi led by the NSUI National President with National General Secretaries, National Secretaries and NSUI workers.
The protest was attended by some of the leading National General Secretaries, Secretaries, & State Presid-ents of NSUI like Nagesh Kariyappa & Vishal Chaudhary (National General Secretary). NSUI National Secretaries like Anulekha Boosa, Vinod Jhakar, Satvir Chaudhary, Varun Choudhary, Lokesh Chugh, Gaurav Tushir, Shaurya Veer Singh. State Presidents like Akshay Lakhra (Delhi), Abhishek Chaudhary (Rajasthan), Akshay Sharma (Punjab), Ashish Lamba (Secretary DUSU) were also present. This protest was to elicit an apology by the BJP-led Central Government & the Prime Minister to the People of India. Despite the peaceful nature of the protest, the NSUI workers faced barricading by the Police force of New Delhi and were detained.
