In our country, any people, anywhere in India can purchase land but it is extremely sad that Mahajans of J&K union territory cannot purchase even one Marla of Agricultural land i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd rate land in this union territory whereas there is no such restriction on people belonging to other communities," General Secy Akhil Bharat Vaishya Mahasa-mmelan Akhil Bhartiya Vaishya Mahasammelan Virender Gupta said in a meeting held here today. Prominent among those present in the meeting include Rattan Lal Gupta. President, SK Jain. Sr Vice President,Rajeev Gupta, Youth President, Devinder Seth President Vishal Khatri Sabha, Virender Gupta Gen Secy, Atul Aggarwal Secretary.
The leaders said that it is a gross injustice to Mahajan & Khatri community in J&K as all the citizens of the country are treated equally before law irrespective of caste, colour or creed.
"This discrimination is also anti-constitutional as per Indian Constitution, all the people belonging to different communities should be treated equal," they rued.
They further said that it is an admitted fact that Mahajan community of J&K which is comprised of more than 10 lakh souls always played pivotal role in various fields and by their intelligence, honesty and hard work brought all round development in this union territory but it is a matter of criminal discrimination that they have been kept away from the field of agriculture.
"Mahajans & Khatris were never allowed to purchase agriculture land to show their ability in agriculture sector. Had they been allowed to purchase agriculture land, they would have proved their ability to bring appreciable improvement in the agriculture sector also," regretted leaders.
