Hrithik Roshan helped me lose weight before I started shooting for ‘Dhoom’: Esha Deol

13/01/2021

On Hrithik Roshan's birthday, friend Esha Deol, who had shared screen space with the superstar in ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’, spoke about her first co-star. Excerpts…
How was your experience working with Hrithik Roshan in 'Na Tum Jaano Na Hum'?
The first time I faced the camera for films, it was with Hrithik Roshan in ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’. A huge crowd had gathered to watch the mahurat shot in Mehboob studio. Luckily, it was a dance sequence and we had rehearsed a couple of times. I love dancing, and dancing with Hrithik was a dream. It will always be special to me.
How is he as a co-star?
Hrithik will always hold a special place in my heart because I gave my first shot with him. Besides, he gets into the character he is playing so beautifully. Although his first film, ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ had already released by then and he was a huge start, he was very humble, down-to-earth, and encouraging.
What are your fondest memories of him?
We both live on the Juhu 12th road. As a kid, I loved to look outside my bedroom window which faced the street. Almost always there was a boy cycling up and down the street, performing stunts. It was very interesting to watch. Later on, I found out he was Hrithik Roshan!
What is the one quality that makes Hrithik stand out from the rest?
The fact that he is ‘Hrithik Roshan’ makes him stand out (laughs). There is no one like him. He is a unique human being in every aspect--a brilliant actor and a wonderful human being. I love his eyes, which are gorgeous and oh-so-emotive!
How is he as an individual off-camera?
Off-camera, Hrithik is very humble and extremely focused. He is an emotional person, and very old school as far as his emotions go. He is an old soul.
One secret that not many know about him...
He doesn’t share any secrets. He keeps them to himself which I think is great because I am exactly like that. I believe secrets are not meant to be shared.
Your favourite Hrithik Roshan film...
I like every film of his; I just enjoy watching him on screen. But if I was to name over it will be ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’, his debut film, because that's what gave us Hrithik Roshan (smiles).
A Hollywood film that Hrithik could have easily been a part of...
‘The Notebook’. He is a romantic at heart and it would be great to see Hrithik in such a film.
Send him a birthday message...
Just love, love, and lots of love. Continue staying as fit as you are; you are an inspiration to all of us. I remember you helping me lose weight before I started shooting for ‘Dhoom’.
You told me to eat a banana on an empty stomach and run on the treadmill. Continue inspiring us with your fitness. I just want to say we all love you and wish the best for you. Happy Birthday, Hrithik!
