Anu, Akanksha organise Poshan Abhiyaan, Lohri celebrations


JAMMU, Jan 12: Today JMC Corporator Anu Bali along with Akanksha Kals-otra (Child Development Project Officer, Jammu) ICDS project supervizer Kanta sharma from ICDS department organised Poshan Abhiyaan on the auspicious occasion of Lohri in ward no. 24.
The poshaan Abhiyaan in ward no. 24 was organised under the ICDS Project Jammu in coordination with Hon'ble Corporator Anu Bali.
Wishing lohri to the general public, Corporator Anu Bali said that just like lohri festival signifies the end of cold weather, in same way today with this Poshan Abhiyaan she is signifying the end of malnutrition in children, pregnant women and lactating mothers. She further added that malnutrition is not a direct cause of death but contributes to mortality and morbidity by reducing resistance to infections. There are a number of causes of death of children such as prematurity, low birth weight, pneumonia, diarrhoeal diseases, non-communicable diseases, birth asphyxia & birth trauma, injuries, congenital anomalies, acute bacterial sepsis and severe infections, etc.
"During current time of COVID-19 pandemic having low immunity and less resistance to infection due to malnutrition can be the hazardous for the individuals", She said.
On the occasion Akanksha Kalsotra said that Government is implementing several schemes and programs under the Umbrella Integrated Child Development Services Scheme as direct targeted interventions to address the problem of malnutrition in the country. All these schemes address one or other aspects related to nutrition and have the potential to improve nutritional outcomes in the country. She further added that more such Poshan Abhiyaans will be conducted in other wards in close cooperation with the local corporator under the ICDS Project Jammu.
After the ending of the Poshaan Abhiyaan, Lohri was celebrated by lighting bonfire and distributing dry fruits among ICDS project Supervizer Kanta Sharma, Danish Gupta , Corporators Arun Khanna, Hardeep Singh Mankotia, Rajinder Singh and the people present there.
