Pooja Chopra on the need to follow safety guidelines: Lockdowns are not beneficial for us; economy is suffering

20/04/2021

Pooja Chopra feels that the pandemic has been kind to her and her family. However, the actress is pretty mad about people flouting safety guidelines. In an interview, the actress shares a message for those not following the rules that will help keep the numbers of the outbreak in check, philanthropy work, and more. Excerpts…
How have you been dealing with the pandemic?
I have been doing a lot of things. I am a homebody, not an outdoor person. I only go out when I have work or to hang out with my friends. I am quite an indoor person.
So, I have enjoyed my time inside. I have been appealing everyone to wear their masks, be safe, wash their hands time and again. I have done a lot of reading, watched a lot of films, and tried my hand at cooking, in which I miserably failed. I have been working out at home and catching up with my friends on video calls. I have been getting all narrations through video calls. I am enjoying the new normal apart from the fact that I have to wear a mask every time and carry sanitiser. That is a glitch, but apart from that I have been dealing with it pretty fine.
The pandemic has been kind to me and my family members and friends. I am pretty mad at people who do not follow government guidelines as a result of which we have a curfew in Mumbai right now.
What is the message that you would like to give your fans?
I have been telling this time and again that this is your only chance to be a hero. The only thing you have to be is careful. Be at home, don’t have a gala time outside when you don’t have work.
Even when you have work, make sure you wear your mask, and sanitise your hands. I just request everybody to follow the guidelines.
These lockdowns are not beneficial for us. The economy is suffering, people are suffering. The least we can do is be more careful. I hope things get better and hopefully soon.
I would also like to extend my thanks to all the Covid-19 warriors--doctors, BMC, sanitation workers, health workers--who are working relentlessly to keep us safe. Huge respect for them!
Apart from your acting chops, you are also known for your philanthropy work. Do you have any words of inspiration for your fans?
To be honest with you, I do whatever little I can do for very selfish reasons as it makes me feel good.
Whether I do something for kids, old people, girls, or animals, it makes me really happy.
It makes my day. I would appeal to people to try doing something for someone who will not be able to return it back to you and see how it feels because that feeling is so addictive that you will not be able to stop.
Even if it is as small as sharing a meal, or buying something for a kid outside, just see how it makes you feel. That is what keeps me going.
