Aishwarya arriving in a chariot accompanied by SRK for Devdas was an iconic Cannes moment for me: Aditi

The Cannes Film Festival witnesses several Indian beauties make a statement on the red carpet every year. This time around, Aditi Rao Hydari has made her debut at the prestigious film festival. In Cannes for four days, the actress hopes to soak in the sights and sounds without worrying about every look, outfit and what the fashion police has to say about it.
The actress said, "It's the 75th year of India's independence and 75 years of the Cannes Film Festival. It's incredible that our actors like Nandita Das, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and now Deepika Padukone have been a part of the Cannes jury. It's a huge honour for our country as this is a prestigious film festival. I hope to meet people from our fraternity here and watch great films. I am a huge fan of Malayalam cinema, so I am thrilled that G Aravindan's restored 1978 directorial 'Thamp (The Circus Tent) premiered here in the Festival Classics section."
Sharing her excitement, she added, "For anyone, who views cinema as this magical world that is not within their reach, a place that is considered to be the home of cinema is equally magical. For me, the Cannes Film Festival has always been a place that you dream about, not knowing if you'll ever get to be here."
Aditi says, "There is an element of fashion, celebration, great cinema and a plethora of amazing actors. You grow up reading these things, so anyone who loves cinema always hopes that they get to experience it and this is my opportunity. I had always hoped that one day I'd get to be here as an actor."
Recalling some iconic Cannes moments from the past, she said, "It was a big thing for us Indians to see Aishwarya at Cannes 20 years ago for Devdas (2002). That picture of her arriving in a chariot in a bright orange-gold sari, accompanied by Shah Rukh Khan, has been etched in my mind. I remember that photograph vividly, and that, for me, was an iconic moment. I am a huge Mani (Ratnam) sir fan, so the premiere of his film Raavan (2010) was also special, where Aishwarya was again draped in a beautiful sari. Over the years, we've scrolled online for classic Cannes pictures of timeless beauties like Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn. These are people who beautifully represented and merged fashion and cinema. Today, there is an onslaught of images with so many actors walking the red carpet."
The red carpet looks at Cannes are dissected across the world and become a talking point, but Aditi isn't nervous in that department. She explained, "I am a proud Indian and I am loyal to my culture, so I want to be rooted in tradition, but free in my mind when it comes to outfits. I was supposed to go to Cannes in 2020, the year COVID struck, so that didn't happen as everyone went into lockdown. I was extremely stressed back then about how I would look or what I should wear. But today, I have a completely different mindset. I am not nervous anymore. Cannes has been the home of cinema. I want to enjoy it for what it is. It's my first time here and I am only human. I am bound to be awed by everything around me. I want to be a little girl in wonderland who wants to have fun. Mistakes happen and I am sure people will say all kinds of things about my clothes. But I am lucky to be here, and I want to enjoy these moments. As somebody who represents the Indian film industry, it's natural for people to put you under the microscope. I am telling my five-year-old self that I need to enjoy this because who knows if I will get to be here again. I want to live in the moment."
