We have come a long way from setting unrealistic beauty standards for women: Dolly Singh

02/06/2023

Those who follow content creator and actress Dolly Singh on Instagram will know that she has often championed body positivity and worked towards calling out unrealistic standards of beauty. She was in Cannes recently and during a chat, she opened up about the issue.
She told us, "We have come a long way from setting unrealistic beauty standards for women. Growing up, I always wondered how these women on screen or in magazines looked good all the time!
How did their hair grow overnight?
I remember watching this Aishwarya Rai movie and wondering how come she had long and short hair simultaneously.
At least today we are talking about this. Back in the day it was more prevalent."
She added, "Instagram filters are the new barrier. Some people feel comfortable only with filters.
That is also setting unrealistic beauty standards.
We need to take a step back and introspect. I consciously make the effort to not use a filter. You never know who you are inspiring by being real.
Even in our families, people look up to each other so it's important that we think about this. You are responsible for all the girls around you so it's important to set the right example. I am very honest with my audience."
"Today, I see so many young girls who are comfortable with their bodies. They don't care about what others think.
There's no shame attached to things and it's wonderful. I hope we can make more progress. I want to tell the women that do not let anyone make you think that you are any less or your dreams don't matter.
As women, we get affected by everything because we are constantly told what's right for us and what isn't. Just live your life without a care in the world."
