DIPR Reasi organises scintillating cultural programme on Day 2

REASI, Jun 4: Every year in the month of June Baba Jitto Mela, a cultural fair is organised to pay tributes to a great and revolutionary farmer Baba Jittoo, who fought against the feudal system in the area and laid down his life to promote social justice.
On the second day of the mela, thousands of visitors from J&K, HP, Punjab, Haryana and other parts of India congregate to pay obeisance to the Jitto Mal Samadhi. DDC Chairman Saraf Singh Nag was the chief guest on the second day of the historic mela.
Addressing a huge gathering, Saraf Singh Nag threw light on the life and sacrifice of Baba Jitto who laid his life to fight oppression by landlords. He welcomed the devotees who have thronged the shrine of Baba Jitto and his daughter 'Bua Kodi'. He said district administration Reasi has made elaborate arrangements and special awareness stalls to educate farmers and the general public about the new initiatives taken specifically for their benefit. The purpose of this mela is to promote the region's rich tradition & cultural heritage. He said that DIPR organised a wonderful programme and such types of events should be held on regular intervals as these act as a communication channel to pass on cultural heritage to coming generations and spread awareness about the gover-nment sponsored schemes.
The three day long annual event to commemorate the martyrdom of Baba Jitto & Bua Kodi is witnessing a huge congregation of people from different parts of northern India. Earlier, a scintillating Culture program was organised by the Department of Information and Public Relation, Reasi in association with Baba jitto Mela Committee. Several culture troupes performed to name a few were Neha Noor & party, Ashok Hans and Party, Pintu and party, Devika band troupe and other local artists from Reasi & Udhampur.
SDM Katra, DIO Reasi, BDO Katra, Sarpanch Aghar Jitto, prominent citizens and a large number of devotees were present.
