I still consider myself a beginner; I don’t want to think about quantity: Ramya Pandian

05/06/2023

After earning a fan-following through her stints on reality TV shows Bigg Boss Tamil and Cooku With Comali, Ramya Pandian has been acting in critically acclaimed movies like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, in which she shared screen space with Mammootty.
Ramya is currently working on director Ganesh Vinayak's film with Arav, which is set against a village backdrop. The actress states that shooting for the film in the mountain regions was quite difficult.
"The location was near Kookal lake in Kodaikanal. It was a remote area with no route for the caravan, so there was no proper toilet. We lived inside a tent and had to take food to cook there.
We had to trek to reach the place and return on horseback. It was physically demanding for all of us. Every department had their own struggles; the cinematography team especially faced difficulty canning the handheld shots because they had to run on rough terrain. But at the end of the day, the output was worth all the trouble," she states.
On working with Arav, who was on Bigg Boss Tamil Season 1, she says "He is a dedicated artiste. Despite the cold weather, he had to hold hisbalance to strike certain poses while shooting near a waterfall. We all appreciated him for that effort. He's friendly and shooting with him was a great experience."
The actress feels that she gets roped in for projects because filmmakers consider her to be apt for those roles. "Lijo Jose Pellissery and Mammootty sir felt that I would be apt for the role and that's how I got the opportunity."
NOT IN CINEMA FOR MONEY
I can do more films, but am afraid that I might lose myself in the process. This is a career I've made for myself with nobody's help. I need to take things slow. In fact, I still consider myself a beginner and don't want to think about quantity. If it's all about money, I can do a few films quickly. But I am passionate about cinema and want to be part of good films. Such films will help us with our career. Otherwise, surviving in the industry isn't easy.
'THE FILM TALKS ABOUT BRINGING CHANGES IN SOCIETY, AND I FELT I SHOULD BE PART OF IT'
Since I've been doing rural characters, I was a little sceptical initially about taking up this project. But I loved the story and my character - a bold person. The film talks about bringing changes in society, and I felt I should be part of it.
More than experimenting with roles, I like being part of films that are rooted in and represent our culture. I consider such offers a blessing.
