My father saw the talent in me: Ayushmann Khurrana

06/06/2023

Ayushmann Khurrana is back to work after his father’s (P Khurrana) recent demise. In an interview given days before the incident, Ayushmann spoke to us about his father and how being an RJ, VJ, TV anchor, actor and singer has made him take more risks in his career.
My father (P Khurrana) was the one who packed my bags and gave me a ticket to go to Mumbai. Log actor banne ke liye ghar se bhagte hain, mujhe bhagaya gaya tha. He saw talent in me, and he was like ‘It’s the right time and you have to go to Mumbai’
My father changed the spelling of my name and added ‘nn’ and ‘rr’ in my name. The spelling of my name has always been like that, it was never changed after coming to Mumbai. In school also I was made fun of ki yeh double ‘n’ double ‘r’ kya hai and I used to be like, ‘my dad is an astrologer, I have no option but to have that spelling.’ So the credit of my success goes to my father
I should be surprised by the script. Like whenever I take a narration or read a script, if I feel surprised or shocked and if it really intrigues me, I think that translates into something normal on the celluloid for me. I am constantly looking for scripts and stories
– On his choice of film scripts
Right after my graduation exams, when I was doing theatre in Chandigarh, my father took me out of the production and told me, ‘You need to pack your bags and leave for Mumbai.’ There’s probably no wrong time to do the right thing, but he told me, ‘Tera momentum chala jayega if you don’t go now.’ He probably saw something that I didn’t

‘You get more fodder for your creativity by meeting people from other walks of life’
Talking about why he’s mostly missing from Bollywood parties, Ayushmann says that he loves to absorb things from observing people from different walks of life. “I am not really social as a person, although most of the time I’m travelling and meeting people. I’m a public figure, but I really need time to absorb things. So, for me, it could be reading or watching something or meeting a friend who is not from the industry. You get more fodder for your creativity when you meet people from other walks of life. I want to absorb more from people I meet in my free time and add more to my creativity as an artiste,” he adds.
