Air India website crashes after offering tickets for Rs 100

New Delhi: The website of Air India has crashed due to unprecedented traffic after the airline announced to celebrate the merger with the Indian Airlines by offering tickets with base fare of Rs 100 (taxes and other charges extra) starting Wednesday.
The airline website has not been functioning since midnight of 27th August.
The website went down, with a message on the website reading – "Service Unavailable". Another link to book tickets on Air India showed a "System Busy" message.
The sale of these tickets will start from August 27 and close on August 31, a five-day booking for travel during the period of August 27 to September 30. However, the booking has to be done only through the airline's website.
Air India will be celebrating its merger with Indian Airlines as 'Air India Day' on Wednesday where it will award meritorious employees of the airline.
"This is the first time the airline will be celebrating the 'Air India Day'. A function will be held to celebrate the day and also to award meritorious employees of the airline," an official spokesperson said.
Air India was merged with Indian Airlines into one airline as Air India on August 27, 2007.
Earlier on Tuesday, AirAsia India announced a fare-war by offering tickets at Rs 600 only for advance bookings.
To avail the offer of AirAsia India, one must book the tickets by August 31 for travel period between October 26, 2014 and October 24, 2015.
On Monday, another carrier, SpiceJet offered festive discount fares starting as low as Rs 1,888 which is to be booked by August 27 for travel between September 25 and January 15.
