Jammu: In fresh ceasefire violation, Pakistan troops fired at forward Indian posts along Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district tonight, drawing retaliation from Indian soldiers.
"There was no casualty reported as last report came in," a Defence spokesman said.
The Pakistan soldiers resorted to mortar shelling and fired through automatic weapons at the forward Indian posts, he said.
"Pakistan troops started unprovoked firing from small arms and automatic weapons and lobbed mortar shells on forward posts along LoC in Balakote sector at 2030 hours tonight," he said.
Indian troops "effectively and appropriately responded to Pakistan firing and shelling".
Pakistan Rangers had also opened fire on border outposts in Jammu last night but the Indian forces showed restraint and did not retaliate.
Throughout Diwali on Thursday, Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire several times and resorted to firing on border outposts (BoPs) along the international border (IB) in Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Pakistan Rangers resorted to small-arms firing on BoPs along IB in Jammu frontier till 2010 hours yesterday," BSF spokesman said today.
After a brief lull of three days, Pakistan has again resorted to firing from across the international border (IB) for a brief period in Ramgarh and Arnia sectors today, by targeting at least seven posts during Diwali festivity, but there were no casualties or damage on the Indian side. Meanwhile the Indian side maintained restrained.
Official sources said the Pakistan Rangers who opened small arms firing at forward village of Narayanpur in Ramgarh sector and Stop-2 in Arnia sector last night, today again resorted to
unprovoked firing in Arnia and Ramgarh sub-sectors of Jammu
region.
“Apart from two provocations during night in Arnia sector, Pakistan Rangers also resorted to unprovoked firing in area of BSF in Samba and Hiranagar sector, official sources said, adding
“Pak rangers also fired in forward area being manned by BSF in Basanter of Samba sector”.
Official sources added, the firing was reported between 0730 hours to 0900 hours. “Thereafter Pakistan Rangers again resumed unprovoked firing and targeted Indian forward Posts in Ramgarh Sector at about 0930 hrs, however, BSF troops didn’t retaliate to
Pakistan firing.”
“Pakistan is provoking BSF troops manning International Border (IB), repeatedly with a sole objective of spoiling the Diwali celebrations of border populace,” they said.
For the past few days Pakistan Rangers have been resorting to unprovoked firing just to escalate the situation along international border (IB).
Meanwhile, in view of latest ceasefire violations and apprehensions that Pakistani Rangers could resort to any mischief on the occasion of festival, the people continued to stay in the
relief camps.
The fresh ceasefire violation on Wednesday and Thursday from the Pakistan Rangers comes 72 hours after the last instance of firing from across the border on the night of October 19 in
Pargwal sector of Akhnoor.
Pakistani troops had also violated the ceasefire on October 17 and 18 by resorting to firing on BoPs in Makwal and Allah-Mai-De Kothey (AMK) area of Jammu.
