UP Govt disappointed over cancellation of Obama’s visit to Agra

NOIDA: UP government was disappointed over cancellation of US President Barack Obama's trip to Agra, Shashank Vikram, a senior official of UP tourism told TOI on Saturday. He, however, remained tightlipped over cause led to cancellation of trip.
Agra commissioner Pradeep Bhatnagar, while talking to TOI confirmed that Obama's trip to Agra has been cancelled. UP government officials said that exact cause of cancellation of Agra visit has not been shared by the US security agencies.
The report of illegal access to Taj Mahal had raised security concern and a further headache for UP police and other security agencies. Sources said that US security agencies were not happy with the security arrangements.
"At 9 am in the morning US security agencies confirmed us that US President Barack Obama is not visiting Agra on January 27," Bhatnagar said.
When asked about the reason of cancellation, Bhatnagar said, "Exact cause of cancellation of visit has not been shared by the agencies. We were only told about the cancellation of programme."
Ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit, the UP police had chalked out the security plan.
On January 27 at 2 pm, Obama was supposed to land in Agra airbase. From Agra airbase to Taj Mahal, Obama cavalcade was supposed to travel 11 kilometres by road to reach Taj Mahal.
To tackle any untoward incident, the police had planned to set up anti-missile system in and around Taj Mahal and along Yamuna Expressway. All communicable frequencies were also planned be jammed in and around of Taj Mahal and Yamuna Expressway, during Obama visit.
In view of Obama visit, QRT (quick response team) teams and PAC platoons have been deployed along Yamuna Expressway and other highways around tajmahal.
The report of illegal access had raised security concern and further headache for UP police and other security agencies.
"To ensure security during Obama and his wife visit in Taj Mahal, the government had decided to close Taj Mahal on January 27 from 9 am till they leave, for general public," the official said.
