JAMMU, Nov 24: The Department of Education in collaboration with the Dep-artment of Environmental Sciences organized an awareness programme on "Menstrual Hygiene and HIV AIDS" under the able guidance of the principal of the college, Dr. Meeru Abrol.
Speaking on the occasion, principal of the college Dr. Meeru Abrol stressed on the importance of the awareness campaign and its mission. Given the multiple challenges women and adolescent girls face, it is evident that promoting menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is not only a sanitation matter; it is also an important step towards safeguarding the dignity, bodily integrity & overall life oppo-rtunities of women and girls.
The programme was initiated with an awareness lecture on the importance of menstrual health and hygiene by Dr. Eisha Verma and made students aware about menstrual hygiene. She deliberated upon the topic and stressed despite being a normal part of life, the topic of menstruation is considered uncomfortable. Millions of menstruators around the world are quietly battling "period poverty" - induced by the high price of hygiene products. Poor menstrual hygiene, however, can pose serious health risks, like reproductive and urinary tract infections which can result in future infertility and birth complications. Neglecting to wash hands after changing menstrual products can spread infections, such as Hepatitis B and thrush. The students enthusiastically participated in the event.
