PIL regarding Modern Slaughter House
DB directs AG & DSGI to apprise the Court about Current Status of Jammu, Srinagar and Ladakh Slaughter Houses

Jammu, Mar 22: In the much publicised Public Interest Litigation filed by an NGO named SAVE through its Chairperson, Devinder Kour Madan alias Rumpy Madan seeking establishment of hygienic/modern Slaughter Houses in the U.T.s of J&K and Ladakh, the Division Bench of High Court of J&K and Ladakh comprising the Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh & Justice M.A. Chowdhary has directed Advocate General of J&K D.C. Raina and DSGI Vishal Sharma appearing for the U.T. of Ladakh to apprise the Court with respect to latest position in the progress of work of two modern Slaughter Houses in both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions. The Division Bench also issued directions with regard to latest status indicating the position of Kargil and Leh Slaughter Houses by the next date of hearing.
After hearing Advocate S.S. Ahmed with Advocates Rahul Raina, Supriya Chouhan and Syed Majid Shah appearing for the petitioner-NGO SAVE whereas Advocate General D.C. Raina with Deputy AG K.D.S Kotwal appearing for UT of J&K, CGSC Eishan Dadhichi vice Vishal Sharma, DSGI for U.T. of Ladakh and Advocate Harshwardhan Gupta appearing for Jammu Municipal Corporation, the Division Bench headed by the Chief Justice N. Kotishwar Singh further directed Advocate General D.C. Raina to apprise the Court about the constitution and functioning of the Slaughter House Monitoring Committee in terms of the orders passed by the Supreme Court in the case titled Laxmi Narayan Modi vs. Union of India and Ors.
Earlier, Advocate S.S. Ahmed informed the Division Bench that in Jammu, the work in two abbattoirs located in Gujjar Nagar (Halal Line) and Dogra Hall (Jhatka Line) is in progress and in Srinagar, the work is going on at Alluchi Bagh, Srinagar which is being undertaken by JKPCC Ltd.
After considering the submissions from both the sides, the Division Bench directed both UTs of J&K and Ladakh to submit before the Court the latest progress of works of the modernisation of Slaughter Houses. JNF
