CHHAPRA, May 2: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday expressed his surprise over allegations being levelled against BJP that "democracy is in danger" under its regime, saying those who had imposed emergency were indulged in such mud-slinging.
Singh while addressing a public meeting in favour of BJP candidate Rajeev Pratap Rudy from Saran Lok Sabha seat, said that opposition parties were making allegations that democracy was in danger under its regime in the country. It was most surprising for him as those who had imposed emergency in the country, were making much hue and cry over nothing, he remarked making oblique reference to Congress as the party had imposed emergency in seventies, trampling the spirit of democracy.
Defence Minister, also a senior BJP leader, said that Narendra Modi government had succeeded in fulfilling aspirations of people of the country. Zero balance accounts under "Jan Dhan Yojna " were opened in banks for poor and benefits of various schemes were given to them under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), he added. Singh said that Ayushman Cards had been issued to only poor for treatment upto Rs 5 lakhs per year but it would now be issued to all people having attained the age of 70 years irrespective of their caste, creed and economic conditions,if BJP was voted to power after ongoing Lok Sabha elections. It would give a big relief to elderly persons who attained the age of 70 years, he noted.
BJP leader said that influence of India had increased considerably on world fora since Narendra Modi government was voted to power in the country in 2014. Whole world now paid due attention to what India said on any issue, he maintained.
Singh said that India was at 11th position on largest economies of the world in 2014 but the country reached 5th position in last ten years due to sustained efforts of Narendra Modi government. India would become 3rd largest economy of world in next tenure of Narendra Modi government if voted to power, he asserted.
BJP leader said that India under the regime of Narendra Modi government had changed as terrorists were not only being targeted within boundaries of the country but also across the border. He took potshot at Congress and RJD leaders for being indulged in corrupt practices and wondered how they were seeking votes in favour of their candidates. Leaders worked as per ethics and public perception (Lok laj) in democracy but leaders of both Congress and RJD had nothing to do with such things, he noted. He also exhorted the people to extend their support to NDA candidates in ongoing Lok Sabha elections to ensure third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
