Collegium recommends 7 additional judges of Bombay HC to be made permanent, fresh term for 2 additional judges

Also recommends appointment of three Delhi High Court judges as permanent judges

NEW DELHI, Jul 9: The Supreme Court Collegium on Tuesday recommended seven additional judges for appointment as permanent judges of the High Court.
The Collegium also recommended that two other additional judges be given a fresh term of one year as additional judges with effect from October 7.
The judges who have been recommended for permanent appointment are: Justices SG Chapalgaonkar, MM Sathaye, Neela Kedar Gokhale, YG Khobragade, MW Chandwani, AS Waghwase and RM Joshi.
The two judges who have been recommended for a fresh term are Justices SA Deshmukh and VV Joshi.
The recommendations with respect to Justices Chapalgaonkar, Sathaye and Gokhale were made by the Bombay High Court Collegium on May 3. The rest of the recommendations were made on April 1.
As on July 1, Bombay High Court was functioning with 66 judges against a sanctioned strength of 94. Of these, 17 were additional and 49 were permanent.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court collegium on Tuesday recommended the names of three additional judges of the Delhi High Court to be made permanent judges of that Court.
The following judges have been recommended to be made permanent:
Justice Girish Kathpalia, Justice Manoj Jain, and Justice Dharmesh Sharma.
The collegium resolution stated that the collegium of the High Court of Delhi had on March 12 unanimously recommended the appointment of the three judges as permanent.
"The members of the Committee of the Supreme Court constituted by the Chief Justice of India in terms of the Resolution dated 26 October 2017 of the Supreme Court Collegium have assessed the judgments of the above-named Additional Judges. On evaluation of the judgments, the members of the Committee have rated the quality of judgments as 'Good'," the resolution stated.
It added,
"On an overall consideration of the above proposal, the Collegium is of the view that S/Shri Justices (i) Girish Kathpalia, (ii) Manoj Jain, and (iii) Dharmesh Sharma, Additional Judges are fit and suitable for being appointed as permanent Judges."
