Delhi High Court designates 70 lawyers as Senior Advocates

NEW DELHI, Nov 29: The Delhi High Court has designated 70 lawyers as Senior Advocates.
The following are the lawyers who have been conferred the gown: Gautam Narayan, Sanjeev Sagar, Sumeet Verma, Anupam Srivastava, Manu Sharma, Pavan Narang, Sanjay Dewan, Sonu Bhatnagar, Rajdipa Behura, Pooja Mehra Saigal, Apoorv Kurup, Puneet Taneja, Kunal Tandon, Sumit Bansal, Samrat Rabinder Nigam, Anuraag Ahluwalia, Tanveer Ahmed Mir, Jeevesh Nagrath, Abhijat, Harish V Shankar, Kaadambari, Santosh Tripathi, Swati Sukumar, Vibha Mahajan Seth, Ashim Vachher, Amit Chadha, Abhishek Malhotra, Kirtiman Singh, Manik Dogra, Nandita Rao, Vaibhav Rajgopal Gaggar, Sandip Prabhakar, Ashish Mohan, Diya Kapur, Manish Sharma, Jatan Singh, Sumeet Pushkarna, Rashmi Chabra, Sandeep Sharma, Sai Deepak J, Ajay Arora, Madhav Khurana, Manish Kumar Jha, Sanjay Sharawat, Aseem Chawla, Surya Kant Singla, Mriganga Dutta, Gaurav Sarin, Priya Kumar, Anil Soni, Ravi Prakash, Arundhati Katju, Buddy Anumalasetti Ranganadhan, Ankit Jain, Tamali Wad, Jitendra Sethi, Shyel Trehan, Dharmesh Misra, Uttam Datt, Gyanendra Kumar, Avininder Singh, Pradeep Kumar Bakshi, Jagdeep Sharma, Rajiv Saxena, Shashank Garg, Aditya Narain, Parvinder Chauhan, Sachit Jolly, Asheesh Jain, Pragyan Pradip Sharma.
The High Court interviewed over 300 lawyers who had applied for the designation.
The applications of those who scored between 65 to 69 marks have been deferred.
This is first time that since March 2021 that the High Court has conferred the senior designation. In 2021, 55 lawyers had been given the senior gown.
Pertinently, the Senior Advocate designation rules were amended in March 2024.
As per the new rules under the High Court of Delhi Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2024, all matters related to designation of Senior Advocates are dealt with by a Permanent Committee.
This Committee comprises the Chief Justice and two senior-most judges of the High Court, the Additional Solicitor General, a Senior Advocate nominated by the Administrative Committee from among three lawyers suggested by the Delhi government, and a nominated member of the Bar Association.
A Secretariat of the Permanent Committee prepares a list of the candidates with a compilation of their data and past records. Apart from the interview component, the Permanent Committee assesses the candidates upon considering several factors such as number of years of practice, pro bono work, publications, etc.
