Phase-I of Tawi River Front project to be completed in Apr 2025: Govt

JAMMU, Mar 11: Government on Tuesday said that the Phase-I of the Tawi River Front project shall be completed in April 2025 with an allotted cost of Rs 143 crore.
Replying to a question of BJP MLA from Jammu West, Arvind Gupta about the present status of the under construction Tawi River Front Project, Tawi Barrage, Artificial Lake, the Minister In-charge Jal Shakti Department, Javed Rana said, "The Phase-I of the Tawi River Front project shall be completed in April 2025 with an allotted cost of Rs 143 crores."
He said that the date of tendering for the left bank was November 15, 2021 and for the right bank, it was November 11, 2021 and allotment for both the banks was made on January 1, 2022.
The Minister further said that the expected date for completion of the left bank is March 2025with estimated cost of Rs 74.88 crores (allotted cost: Rs 68.47 cr) and for the right bank it is April 2025 with an estimated cost of Rs 81.50 crores (Rs 74.53 cr).
Expenditure incurred till date for the left bank is Rs 55.36 crores and Rs 66.75 crores while physical progress of the project is 96 percent and 94 percent respectively.
To separate questions about the date when will the project be completed indicating its revised budget estimation and the steps taken or being taken to prevent the drainage discharge into Ranbir Canal and protect it from contamination, the Minister replied, "till date 85 percent of work of Tawi Barrage/Artificial Lake is completed till date for which the tendering process was done on May 11, 2022 and work was allotted on September 7, 2022."
Rana further said that the expected time for the completion of the project is April 2025 (Pondage), and June 2025 (Remaining Works) with an estimated cost of Rs 64.80 crores and expenditure incurred till date is Rs 36.15 crores.
"In order to preserve the direct drain discharge into the Ranbir Canal, DPR for an amount of Rs 34.06 crores have been prepared for execution of ten numbers of works," he said in a written reply.
