JAMMU, Mar 21: Police on Friday resorted to mild lathi charge and foiled the march of protesting PHE daily wagers to the Chief Minister residence here.
The daily wagers on March 10 during a protest had announced three-day strike and suspension of water supply from March 20.
The daily wagers are protesting over no mention about their regularization and considering their demands in the recent budget of Jammu and Kashmir government presented by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Legisla-tive Assembly.
Shouting anti-govt slogans and "stop exploitation", hundreds of PHE daily wagers this afternoon took out march under the banner of PHE Employees Union towards the Chief Minister's residence.
Heavy deployment of Police prevented the march as police resorted to mild lathi charge to stop them from moving ahead.
The protesters later staged sit-in at Residency Road.
Police also used barricades and concertina wires to prevent their movement.
Notably, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday told the Legislative Assembly that a committee headed by the Chief Secretary had already been formed to look into the issue of regularisation of daily wagers. Meanwhile traffic in Jammu city remained disrupted due to the agitation.
