Anti Corruption Bureau books Patwari in disproportionate assets case

JAMMU, Jun 17: Anti Corruption Bureau on Tuesday booked a revenue officer in a case of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
ACB said a discreet verification was conducted into the allegations of accumulation of disproportionate assets raised by a Patwari Mohammad Ayoub Khan of Doniwari Lolab, Kupwara on receipt of a complaint.
The complaint alleged that Khan is leading a lavish lifestyle and owns numerous orchards, agricultural land, and residential properties in Bemina, Srinagar, and Doniwari Lolab. He is also said to possess several vehicles and has allegedly spent a substantial amount as donations to secure admission for his children in professional colleges.
The ACB said the discreet verification conducted revealed that during the Check period, suspect Patwari has incurred huge expenditures and accumulated/raised various assets, which were prima facie disproportionate to his known sources of income.
According to the ACB, the assets and expenditures identified include the purchase of land at Hamdaniya Colony in Bemina, Srinagar, where he constructed a double-storey house, and another double-storey house built in Doniwari Lolab, Kupwara. The suspect also bought a Hyundai Venue car and a two-wheeler, spent significant sums on repaying bank loans, and incurred heavy expenses on his children's education-one admitted to an MBBS course abroad and another enrolled in a nursing college in Amritsar.
The verification conducted revealed that immediately after receipt of complaint against suspect, he started securing frequent Bank loans i.e, to the tune of Rs 75 lac in order to disguise his illegal /unknown sources of income & to hoodwink enquiry officer.
"That the acts of omission & commission on part of suspect patwari constitute cognizable offence of criminal misconduct punishable under section 5 (1) (e) r/w section 5 (2) of the J&K P.C Act Svt, 2006 against the accused public servant. Accordingly, Case FIR No. 03/2025 under section 5 (1) (e) r/w 5(2) of the J&K P.C Act Svt, 2006 was registered on 16-06-2025 at P/S Anti-corruption Bureau Baramulla against the accused patwari," the ACB said.
Immediately after registration of the case search warrants were obtained from Anti-Corruption court Baramulla and searches were conducted at different places belonging to accused person during which various incriminating material including the receipts of purchase of gold articles, receipts of purchase of i-phone 15 & 15 pro & other items pertaining to the investigations of the case, were recovered and seized in the presence of magistrates & witnesses as per procedure under law, the ACB said.
Further investigations are going on.
