SRINAGAR, Jul 27: In a powerful keynote address at the North Zone Regional Conference held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Mr. Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, reflected on the region's rich legal heritage while calling for greater empowerment and inclusion of legal professionals across all districts, particularly in remote areas like Ladakh.
Delivering his remarks before a distinguished gathering of Supreme Court Judges, High Court Justices, senior advocates, and judicial officers, Justice Palli emphasized that the strength of the legal system rests not only in its institutions, but also in its people-especially the young and emerging voices from underserved regions.
Our commitment must be to broaden the scope of professional opportunity across the entire region-from the capital cities to the remotest corners of Ladakh," he said.
Justice Palli, who also serves as Patron-in-Chief of the Legal Services Authorities of J&K and Ladakh, praised the energy and potential of the younger generation of lawyers. He called for measures that provide them with visibility, mentorship, and meaningful engagement with the legal system.
Acknowledging the historical depth of the region's legal institutions, Justice Palli noted that Jammu and Kashmir has long played a pivotal role in India's judicial evolution. But, he argued, legacy must now be coupled with modernization, ethical practice, and equal opportunity, particularly as the judiciary adapts to new challenges and technological shifts.
His address set the tone for a day of meaningful discussion focused on the conference's theme: "In Conversation with the Bar: A Shared Vision for Legal Transformation." The Chief Justice's words were met with wide appreciation from both senior members of the Bar and young advocates in attendance.
As the judiciary continues its efforts to build bridges with the Bar and the public, Justice Arun Palli's call for deeper engagement and outreach is being seen as a vital step toward making justice truly accessible and representative across the Union Territories of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
