SRINAGAR, Oct 27: The Legislative Assembly witnes-sed uproarious scenes on Monday as the controversy over alleged cross-voting in the recent Rajya Sabha elections resurfaced during Question Hour.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary stirred a fresh political storm after directly accusing the BJP of "stealing four votes" in the Upper House elections.
"Yesterday, you stole four votes. If I start speaking, no one will remain seated here. Let us allow a secret to remain a secret," Choudhary remarked, triggering chaos in the House.
Amid the din, Peoples Conference President Sajad Gani Lone alleged that both parties were complicit, saying, "It was match-fixing between NC and BJP."
Meanwhile, high drama unfolded in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday as National Conference (NC) legislators raised slogans of "Vote chor! Vote chor!" pointing towards the opposition benches, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of manipulating votes in the recent Rajya Sabha elections.
The uproar broke out when Deputy Chief Minister was responding to a question during the Question Hour. The situation took a heated turn after he remarked, "Let us keep secrets, we know who has done what."
His comment sparked immediate BJP protests, NC members stood up, shouting 'Vote Chor'. The exchange briefly disrupted the proceedings before the Speaker intervened to restore order.
NC MLAs were referring to the recent Rajya Sabha elections in which BJP candidate Sat Sharma clinched the fourth seat despite the party having only 28 MLAs in the Assembly. Sharma secured 32 votes - four more than the BJP's strength - raising questions and allegations of cross-voting.
