Six shops, house damaged in massive fire in Channi Himmat

JAMMU, May 13: A massive fire broke out in the commercial market of Channi Himmat area here on Wednesday, causing extensive damage to six shops and a residential house, officials said.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident, they said.
The fire erupted early in the day in the Sector 2 market area, located opposite Culture Fit Gym, and quickly engulfed nearby establishments.
According to preliminary reports, an electrical short circuit at a local sweet shop-cum-restaurant is suspected to have triggered the blaze.
"The flames spread rapidly to adjacent structures, including grocery and dairy shops. An adjacent residential house was also partially damaged by the fire and smoke," an official said.
Fire tenders and emergency services personnel were rushed to the spot immediately upon receiving the information.
The firefighters managed to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading further into the densely populated neighborhood.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
