Public Participation Essential to Achieve Swachh Survekshan Abhiyan Goals: Baru

Jammu, May 14: The objectives of the ongoing "Swachh Survekshan Abhiyan" (Cleanliness Survey Campaign) can only be met through public cooperation and full participation, said Sanjay Kumar Baru, Senior BJP leader and former Councillor, during a tour of Ward 41.
During the visit, Baru reviewed the ongoing sanitation drive, directed Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) employees to clean all drains ahead of the monsoon season, and addressed grievances raised by local residents.
Speaking to the media afterward, Baru highlighted that initiatives by elected Councillors-such as door-to-door waste collection and the elimination of designated waste accumulation sites-have declined significantly since the end of their tenure as Councillor. He attributed this to poor coordination between JMC and former Corporators, hampering efforts to keep Jammu City clean.
Baru further stated that, during his time as Councillor, he successfully passed a resolution mandating septic tanks on vacant plots with makeshift dwellings. JMC subsequently launched a city-wide campaign, but laxity has emerged post-Corporation dissolution. As a result, untreated waste and sewage now flow directly into city drains in many areas.
