Jammu, May 17: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Sunday said the Omar Abdullah-led government was committed to channelising youth energies towards positive and productive activities, asserting that the future of Jammu and Kashmir depends on an empowered younger generation.
Addressing a public meeting in Janipur Ward No. 37 of Jammu North Assembly Constituency, organised by Sandeep Singh Manhas and Rakesh Kapahi, Sadhotra said the government was focusing on youth welfare, skill development and employment generation.
He said Mission Yuva and other initiatives aimed at enhancing employability were being pursued to make educated youth self-reliant and active contributors to the region's development.
Referring to the government's commitment to fill 25,000 vacancies in various departments, Sadhotra said transparent and merit-based recruitment would restore confidence among unemployed youth and provide new opportunities. He alleged that unemployment had increased during the previous BJP-led administration, resulting in frustration among young people, and stressed that sustainable development policies and skill-oriented programmes were essential to address the issue. Expressing concern over the growing menace of drug abuse, Sadhotra urged youth to support efforts aimed at making Jammu and Kashmir free from narcotics. He said tackling substance abuse required collective participation from families, teachers, social organisations and civil society, apart from government intervention. Reiterating the National Conference's commitment to inclusive growth and youth empowerment, Sadhotra called upon young people to become ambassadors of peace, communal harmony and development.
Among those present were Mohd Ayoub Malik, Ayesha Gupta, Ved Prakash Sharma, Dr Rajinder Sharma, Priyanka Dogra, Anju Mehra, Poonam Sharma, Ashwani Charak, Gurmeet Singh, Farooq Ahmed & several local party functionaries and residents.
