IIM Jammu launches leadership development programme for SAIL young managers

Jammu, May 18: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu inaugurated the fourth batch of the Mid-Career Leadership Development Training Programme for young managers of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), aimed at enhancing managerial competencies and strengthening industry-academia collaboration.
The programme has brought together 52 participants from various SAIL plants across the country for intensive training focused on leadership, management skills and peer learning.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu, while Dr Atanu Mukherjee, General Manager Academic, Central HRD and Senior Faculty at Management Training Institute (MTI), SAIL, joined the event virtually.
The programme directors - Dr Prakrit Silal, Dr Lalit Pankaj and Dr Pranjal Pachpore - were also present during the inauguration.
Addressing participants online, Dr Atanu Mukherjee emphasised the need for strengthening managerial capabilities within SAIL and encouraged participants to disseminate acquired knowledge within their organisations to foster a continuous learning culture.
Prof. Jabir Ali highlighted the importance of adapting to changing managerial environments through learning and re-learning, urging participants to engage actively in discussions and experiential learning processes.
Prof. Rajesh Sikka, Co-chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy, spoke about the programme's multi-phase structure and stressed the value of peer learning and interaction among professionals from different operational backgrounds.
In his welcome address, Dr Lalit Pankaj outlined the training framework, stating that the curriculum integrates areas such as strategy, human resource management and project-based learning to promote practical application of managerial concepts.
