Varuna attends ‘Made in WUD 2026’, strengthens FICCI FLO collaboration in design and craft education

New Delhi, May 28: FICCI FLO National Initiative Head and Co-lead for Textiles, Handl-ooms & Handicrafts Var-una Anand attended the "Made in WUD (MIW) Design Show 2026" at the invitation of Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor of World University of Design (WU-D). Anand attended the event along with Ambar Pariddi Sahai at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, where the exhibition is being held from May 28 to May 31.
Now in its second edition in the national capital, the MIW Design Show has emerged as a major platform showcasing graduating creative talent from across disciplines including fashion and textile design, communication design, architecture, interior design, product design, animation, digital media, UI/UX & performing arts.
Officials said over 319 graduating projects were presented during the MIW Week at the WUD campus, out of which 60 selected projects were showcased at the Delhi exhibition.
The projects focused on themes such as sustainability, mobility, technology, communication, retail, craft, digital experiences & cultural identity, reflecting industry-oriented & resea-rch-driven innovation.
The visit also marked a significant step towards strengthening collaboration between WUD and FICCI FLO through WUD's newly launched e-campus initiative aimed at expanding design education and skill development opportunities for underprivileged communities, including wea-vers, artisans and craftsmen across India.
The initiative seeks to help traditional craft communities refine skills, adopt innovation and engage with contemporary design practices & digital platforms. Speaking on the occasion, Varuna Anand said design today extends beyond aesthetics and influences fields such as sustainability, communication, technology, mobility & cultural preservation.
"The work presented by the students at MIW 2026 reflects remarkable sensitivity, innovation and a deep understanding of the evolving global creative economy," she said.
Anand added that it was encouraging to witness young designers creating solutions that are culturally rooted while re-maining globally relevant and future-ready.
Ambar Pariddi Sahai said the exhibition highlighted the strength of interdisciplinary learning and creative thinking.
"The students have showcased exceptional originality & professionalism while addressing real-world challenges through design. It is encouraging to see institutions like WUD nurturing innovation while remaining deeply connected to craft, culture and social impact," she said.
Vice Chancellor Sanjay Gupta said "Made in WUD" was envisioned as a platform where academia, industry, culture & society come together to engage with the future of creativity and innovation.
He said collaboration with FICCI FLO would further strengthen outreach and opportunities for artisans, weavers & emerging creative communities thr-ough design education, skill development & meaningful partnerships.
Officials said the MIW Design Show 2026 continues to highlight the growing cultural and economic importance of creative industries while pro-
moting collaborative and socially conscious learning connected with industry and innovation.
