2 soldiers killed in accidental grenade blast in Uri

Srinagar, Jun 10: Two soldiers died in an accidental grenade blast in Uri sector of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.
A hand grenade exploded accidentally during routine handing over of equipment at a camp in Kamalkote in Uri, resulting in injuries to two jawans, the officials said.
They said the injured jawans were shifted to the Army's 92 Base Hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Inquest proceedings as required under law have been initiated, they added. Srinagar-based Defence PRO said he would comment on the incident only after getting details from the concerned officials.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday paid homage to Army personnel Chavan Vikram Balkrishna and JadhavArjunRajendra, who laid down their lives in the line of duty in the Uri sector of Baramulla district. In a message, the Lieutenant Governor saluted the sacrifice of the two soldiers and expressed solidarity with their families.
"I salute the supreme sacrifice of our Bravehearts Sowar Chavan Vikram Balkrishna and Sapper Jadhav Arjun Rajendra. The nation shall remain forever grateful to their selfless devotion to duty. We stand united in solidarity with the families of the martyrs in this hour of grief," Sinha said.
The Lieutenant Governor also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and paid tribute to the soldiers' service and dedication to the nation.
