Crime Branch registers case in study visa fraud

JAMMU, Jul 11: A case was registered against a person on Saturday for allegedly defrauding a local resident of Rs 3.58 lakh through multiple online transactions on the pretext of arranging a study visa to Australia, an official said.
The Special Crime Wing of the Crime Branch Jammu booked Puneet Singh, a resident of Upper Gadi Garh, following a complaint that he collected a huge amount between July and October 2025 from the victim by promising to secure an Australian study visa.
The Jammu Crime Branch spokesperson said the accused currently resides in Sydney, Australia and has avoided repayment despite repeated requests.
He said the complainant also alleged that the accused had called him to Delhi using a fraudulent biometric and a fake office letter.
He said preliminary verification prima facie established the offence of cheating.
The spokesperson said a case under Section 318(4) BNS has been registered at the Special Crime Wing Police Station, Jammu. He advised citizens to verify the credentials of visa agents and remain cautious of fake offer letters and biometric documents.
