Special Lok Adalat settles 35 cases in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Jul 18: The Special Lok Adalat for cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrum-ents Act was held today in Udhampur district under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge/ Chairp-erson, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Udhampur Kalpana Revo and Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Udhampur Sumati Sharma.
The Special Lok Adalat aims to resolve cheque-bounce disputes through compromise and settlement instead of prolonged litigation.
Five benches, comprising judicial officers and panel lawyers, were constituted across Udhampur district to resolve disputes amicably.
The Lok Adalat settled 35 of 82 cases with a total settlement of ?36,48,270. Similar Special Lok Adalats were held at TLSC Ramnagar, Majalta and Chenani.
