Centre opens talks with CJP as AISA ends 23-day hunger strike

New Delhi, Jul 20: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday said it was heading for talks with union Health Minister and former BJP National President J P Nadda after the Centre reached out for discussions amid the ongoing agitation at Jantar Mantar over alleged examination irregularities and education reforms.
In a post on X, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said he and party leader AshutoshRanka were on their way to meet Nadda on behalf of the party. "It's 11:52 AM. Ashutosh Ranka and I, on behalf of the Cockroach Janta Party, are on our way to meet J P Nadda.
The government had reached out for talks in the morning. Our demands are clear. The youth have gathered in huge numbers. We shall win!" Das wrote.
Meanwhile, AISA announced that student leaders Neha Bora, Manish Kumar, and AameenAmitoj had ended their 23-day fast after a delegation of Opposition leaders and eminent public figures urged them to conclude that phase of the protest. The delegation included parliamentarians Manoj Jha, Rajaram Singh, and Amra Ram, social activist Yogendra Yadav, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, Professor Atul Sood, and actors Prakash Raj and ShabanaAzmi.
Addressing the gathering, YogendraYadav said the students were not abandoning their struggle but merely bringing one form of protest to an end. RajyaSabha MP Manoj Jha described the agitation as a significant achievement, saying it had exposed the government on several fronts. Actor ShabanaAzmi said the younger generation had shown the country a new direction in democratic protest, while CPI(M) MP Rajaram Singh assured the students that the issues they had raised would now be taken up in Parliament, adding that their movement had inspired the Opposition.
AISA said the three student leaders had each lost over 12 per cent of their body weight during the fast and experienced critically low blood sugar levels along with serious health complications affecting multiple organs. The organisation also announced a month-long nationwide campaign targeting union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, saying it would continue to press the demands raised through the Jantar Mantar protest.
