Ex-policeman chargesheeted in HC job scam

JAMMU, Jul 22: The Crime Branch on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against a former policeman for allegedly duping several people on the false promise of securing them employment in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Special Crime Wing (SCW) Jammu, Sanjay Parihar said the chargesheet was filed in a Jammu court against former selection grade constable Mohd Tahir, a resident of Mendhar tehsil of Poonch, in connection with an FIR registered earlier this year under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The case stemmed from two written complaints alleging that the accused fraudulently induced the complainants by promising jobs in the court, he said.
After paying the money through bank transfers and cash, the SSP said the complainants were handed over forged high court appointment orders which turned out to be fake.
During investigation, the SCW collected documentary, financial and oral evidence, including bank account statements, seizure of forged appointment orders, statements of witnesses recorded under BNSS, and official verification from the high court confirming that the purported appointment orders were forged, Parihar said.
He said the investigation established the money trail through bank transactions and corroborated the allegations made by the complainants.
The accused deliberately evaded investigation despite repeated notices issued under the BNSS, Parihar said.
Tahir is already named in another case of a similar nature registered in 2024 and has been absconding, with warrants already issued against him by the competent court.
