JU Vice-Chancellor urges freshers to embrace innovation and skill development

JAMMU, Aug 6: Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, on Thursday interacted with newly admitted students during the third day of the University's induction programme and urged them to make the most of the opportunities available on campus to become skilled, innovative and socially responsible citizens.
Welcoming the freshers, Prof. Rai described their admission as the beginning of a transformative journey and encouraged them to actively participate in academic, cultural, literary, sports and skill development activities.
Highlighting the University's commitment to nurturing student talent, the Vice-Chancellor announced that aRs 2 crore corpus fund has been created to ensure the sustained functioning of student clubs irrespective of administrative changes. He also informed that aRs 50 lakh corpus fund has been established for the publication of the University's literary magazine, Litzine, to promote creativity and literary expression.
Prof. Rai said the University of Jammu, comprising the main campus and seven off-site campuses, has earned national recognition for its academic excellence, including NAAC A++ accreditation.
Referring to the University's flagship undergraduate initiative, "Design Your Degree", he described it as one of the country's most progressive academic programmes and said it has been appreciated by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education. He added that students enrolled under the programme have distinguished themselves through national innovation competitions, start-ups and technology-driven projects.
Emphasising the importance of multidisciplinary learning, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to acquire skills in Artificial Intell-igence, Information Technology, coding, data analytics, critical thinking, creativity and communication, stating that these competencies would be crucial for higher education, research, entrepreneurship and future careers.
