Sawhney extends support to Surankote, Poonch Bar; seeks lawful and amicable resolution

JAMMU, Aug 18: A.K. Sawhney, Advocate and former President of the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, has expressed serious concern over the recent police action involving a member of the judiciary and extended his full support to the decision taken by the Bar Associations of Surankote and Poonch.
Sawhney said the concerns and demands raised by the advocates deserve due conside-ration through a fair, lawful and constructive dialogue between the concerned authorities and representatives of the Bar.
He said the legal fraternity has always stood for the rule of law, constitutional values, justice and protection of lawful rights. In the present circumstances, he said, the matter should be resolved peacefully and expeditiously, keeping in view the dignity of all concerned and the larger interests of the public and the legal fraternity.
Sawhney further announced that if the legitimate demands raised by the lawyers are not addressed by the police authorities by tomorrow, he would personally volunteer to join the peaceful stir of the Surankote and Poonch advocates at their respective places.
He appealed to all concerned to maintain restraint, unity and discipline and expressed hope that an amicable resolution would be reached at the earliest through dialogue and due process.
"Vakeel Ekta Zindabad," he said.
Meanwhile, Advocate Sarfraz expressed gratitude to Sawhney for his support, guidance and continued efforts in support of the District Court, Poonch, and in the larger interest of the Bar.
"I am highly thankful to you, Sir, for your valuable support, guidance and continued efforts in support of the District Court, Poonch, and in the larger interest of the Bar. Your sincere concern for the welfare of the legal fraternity and your willingness to stand with the advocates of Poonch are truly commendable," Sarfraz said.
He said Sawhney's support had given strength and encouragement to members of the Bar and reflected his commitment towards maintaining the dignity, unity and honour of the legal profession.
"We deeply appreciate your efforts and remain grateful for your kind consideration and support," Sarfraz added.
