Over a dozen deputations meet Dy CM

JAMMU, Aug 27: More than a dozen deputations from Jammu city and districts of Jammu, Samba and Udhampur met Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary at the National Conference headquarters here on Thursday and apprised him of various issues concerning their respective areas.
The deputations met Choudhary in the presence of National Conference Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta. The Deputy Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the representatives and assured them that their genuine grievances would be addressed. He also issued directions to the concerned authorities for appropriate action and early resolution of the issues. Talking to reporters later, Choudhary defended the 6.83 per cent increase in electricity tariff, saying the revision was necessary in view of the prevailing requirements of the power sector.
He said electricity tariffs had increased by 28.5 per cent during 2017-22, when the PDP-BJP coalition and subsequently the Lieutenant Governor's administration were in power in J&K.
Choudhary accused the BJP of misleading people and creating what he described as negative narratives against the Omar Abdullah-led government. He alleged that the BJP was focusing on political theatrics instead of raising genuine public issues.
Referring to the BJP's recent activities over the security situation in Srinagar, he said the party was indulging in "dramebazi and nautanki" rather than addressing issues concerning the people.
Choudhary said the Omar Abdullah-led government was committed to addressing public grievances, promoting development and giving due consideration to genuine demands of people across Jammu and Kashmir.
Gupta said the National Conference would continue to remain accessible to people and take up their genuine issues with the government at appropriate forums.
