NC pays tributes to Sheikh Abdullah on 44th death anniversary across Jammu division

JAMMU, Sep 8: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Tuesday paid floral tributes to party founder and former Jammu and Kashmir prime minister Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah on his 44th death anniversary, with the main commemorative function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan here.
Senior party leaders gathered at the provincial headquarters to remember Sheikh Abdullah's political legacy, secular vision, land reforms and contribution towards promoting unity and brotherhood in Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was chaired by Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta and attended by Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports and ARI & Trainings Satish Sharma, former minister and Additional General Secretary Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, former minister and Central Zone President Babu Rampal, Provincial Secretary Jammu Sheikh Bashir Ahmad and other senior party leaders and functionaries.
Similar commemorative programmes were organised at district headquarters across the Jammu division, where party workers paid tributes to Sheikh Abdullah and recalled his contributions.
Speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma reiterated the NC's commitment to preserving the secular and inclusive identity of Jammu and Kashmir, saying Sheikh Abdullah had championed the values of religious freedom, equality and unity in diversity.
"National Conference remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the rights of all people, ensuring freedom of religion, equality and unity in diversity. Upholding this spirit and isolating those who spread hate is the true tribute to Sheikh Sahib," Sharma said.
He also recalled the Land Reforms Act introduced under Sheikh Abdullah's leadership, saying the historic measure empowered farmers and brought significant socio-economic changes to Jammu and Kashmir.
Ajay Kumar Sadhotra described Sheikh Abdullah as a towering political figure and a proponent of Hindu-Muslim unity.
He said Sheikh Abdullah was a visionary leader and a contemporary of Mahatma Gandhi who worked to promote communal harmony and brotherhood during challenging periods in the country's history.
"Preserving the idea of Jammu and Kashmir is like preserving the idea of India," Sadhotra said.
Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta said Sheikh Abdullah's commitment to secularism played an important role in shaping the political and social landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
He recalled Sheikh Abdullah's opposition to the two-nation theory and his association with the secular political vision of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.
Gupta said Sheikh Abdullah's stature transcended regional and religious boundaries, particularly during the communal turmoil of 1947, when he stood for unity and peace.
