Chargesheet filed against couple in fraudulent land deal case

Jammu, Sep 14: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Jammu on Monday filed a chargesheet against a couple for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent land transaction involving Rs 16.50 lakh here, an official said.
The chargesheet against Rahul Dasgotra and his wife SnehaVerma was filed before the Court of Special Municipal Mobile Magistrate Jammu in a case filed in 2025 under various sections of law, including cheating and criminal conspiracy, a spokesperson of the Crime Branch said.
He said the case originated from a written complaint lodged by AnjanBhola, who alleged that Dasgotra represented himself as the owner of land at Patyari village in Bishnah area on the outskirts of Jammu and induced him to enter into an agreement to purchase one kanal of land for Rs 16.50 lakh. During the course of investigation, the notarised agreement to sell dated June 20, 2023, relevant bank and revenue records were seized and examined.
The investigation established that the complainant had transferred Rs 10 lakh and Rs 6.50 lakh in two installments into a bank account maintained in the name of Om Sai Construction, owned by Dasgotra's wife, the spokesperson said. He said verification of the revenue records obtained from the Bishnahtehsildar revealed that the land number, on the basis of which the land transaction had been represented, did not exist in Patyari village.
The investigation found sufficient evidence against both accused, the spokesperson added.
