JU holds panel discussion on ‘BRICS 2026: The Delhi Declaration’

Jammu, Sep 19: The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu, organised a panel discussion on "BRICS 2026: The Delhi Declaration", bringing together academicians and a senior civil servant to deliberate on the evolving role of BRICS and its implications for India and the changing global order.
The discussion was moderated by Prof. Dipankar Sengupta, Department of Economics, University of Jammu. The panellists included Prof. Baljit Singh Mann, Head, Department of Political Science; Prof. Falendra K. Sudan, Department of Economics; and Nagendra Singh Jamwal, JKAS, J&K Government.
Prof. Baljit Singh Mann examined the geopolitical and political dimensions of BRICS, noting that the expansion and institutional evolution of the grouping reflected broader changes in international power relations. He discussed the significance of BRICS in the context of India's foreign policy priorities and its engagement with major global powers. Prof. Falendra K. Sudan focused on the economic and developmental dimensions of BRICS, highlighting cooperation in trade, investment, financial institutions and development partnerships. He also discussed the opportunities and challenges of greater economic integration among member countries and the importance of institutional mechanisms to translate declarations into meaningful cooperation.
Nagendra Singh Jamwal brought an administrative and policy perspective to the discussion, highlighting the relevance of global economic and geopolitical developments for India, particularly in areas such as connectivity, investment, development and integration with emerging global economic networks.
In his remarks, Prof. Dipankar Sengupta said the growing importance of BRICS needed to be viewed against the backdrop of significant changes in the global economic and political order. He described the grouping as an important platform for dialogue among emerging economies and emphasised the need to examine its evolution beyond conventional economic cooperation.
He also highlighted India's role in discussions relating to global governance, development and the interests of the Global South.
