Omar reviews draft J&K Industrial Policy 2026-35

SRINAGAR, Sep 24: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday reviewed the draft Jammu and Kashmir Industrial Policy 2026-35 and directed the Industries and Commerce Departm-ent to ensure that the final framework is balanced, pragmatic and responsive to the evolving needs of the industrial sector.
The meeting was held at the Civil Secretariat and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chou-dhary, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dull-oo, Additional Chief Secr-etary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, ACS Fina-nce Shailendra Kumar, Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Viramjit Singh, J&K Bank MD and CEO Amitava Chatterjee and senior officers of the Industries and Commerce Department and allied departments.
Commissioner Secret-ary Industries and Comm-erce made a presentation on the draft policy, outlining its broad framework, objectives and formulation process.
Omar held detailed discussions on the proposed policy and stressed the need to create a conducive environment for investment while ensuring that its benefits translate into greater opportunities for local entrepreneurs, businesses and employment generation.
He emphasised that the policy should provide a comprehensive and competitive incentive framework, with focused support for priority sectors & emerging sunrise sectors.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to strengthen market access for local industries, further improve ease of doing business and closely link incentives with local employment generation and skill development.
He underlined the importance of a robust implementation mechanism, with a clear focus on simplifying processes, facilitating ease of doing business and ensuring effective delivery of the policy's objectives.
The Industries and Commerce Department was directed to further refine the draft in light of the discussions before it is finalised through the prescribed process.
