HC appoints Leh as place for sittings in Ladakh

SRINAGAR, Oct 5: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has appointed Leh as the place in the Union Territory of Ladakh where its Judges and Division Courts may hold sittings for hearing and disposal of cases.
The decision has been taken under Section 2(2) of the Union Territory of Ladakh (Sitting of Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in Ladakh) Regulation, 2026.
According to a notification issued by the Registrar General of the High Court on October 5, the provision empowers the Chief Justice to appoint a place in Ladakh for sittings of Judges and Division Courts with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
The notification said the Department of Law and Justice, UT of Ladakh, had conveyed the Lieutenant Governor's approval for appointment of Leh as the place for holding High Court sittings.
The Chief Justice has accordingly appointed Leh as the place where Judges and Division Courts may sit for hearing and disposal of such cases and matters as may be assigned or directed from time to time.
The notification has come into force with immediate effect and was issued by M.K. Sharma, Registrar General, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
