Jammu, Oct 13: The University of Jammu on Tuesday commenced its zonal-level cultural festival, 'Display Your Talent 2026', providing students from affiliated colleges and university departments an opportunity to showcase their artistic and creative abilities through around 27 competitions.
Organised by the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), the annual event features competitions in music, dance, literary activities, fine arts and theatre.
Prof. Pankaj K. Sriva-stava, Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education, University of Jammu, was the chief guest at the inaugural function, which began with the lighting of the traditional lamp.
The event was attended by Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, Dean Students Welfare; Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Com-mittee (CCC); Prof. Sarika Manhas, Co-Chairperson, CCC; and other senior university functionaries.
The zonal format was introduced under the vision of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai to encourage wider participation, particularly among students from remote and far-flung areas.
Under the format, affiliated colleges across Jammu province have been divided into five zones - Jammu, Rajouri-Poonch, Samba-Kathua, Udhampur-Reasi and Doda-Kishtwar. Winners at the zonal level will advance to the inter-zonal competitions at the University of Jammu.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Srivastava congratulated the students and highlighted the importance of cultural awareness in their overall development. He appreciated the Department of Students Welfare for providing a platform to nurture talent and encourage creative expression.
He also recalled the cultural initiatives introduced during his tenure as Dean Students Welfare, many of which continue to be organised successfully.
Welcoming the gathering, Prof. Antahal described the inauguration of the three-day festival as a moment of pride for the university. He appreciated the Campus Cultural Committee for implementing the revised format, comprising zonal competitions followed by the inter-zonal finals.
He said the restructuring was aimed at ensuring broader participation, particularly from students belonging to remote areas, adding that the initiative had contributed to the university's achievements at the national level in recent years.
Prof. Chadha described 'Display Your Talent' as one of the university's cherished cultural traditions, noting that the festival, which began in 1983, had evolved into a major platform for artistic expression in music, dance, theatre, fine arts and literary activities.
