JAMMU, Oct 13: Security forces busted a suspected terrorist hideout inside a natural cave in the Surankote area of Poonch district on Tuesday and recovered an AK-47 rifle, six hand grenades and ammunition, officials said.
The arms cache was recovered during a joint operation by the Army and police in the Satharban forest following reports of suspicious movement in the area, they said.
An AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 30 rounds, six hand grenades and medical supplies were seized from the spot. No arrests were made during the operation, officials added.
Meanwhile, a search operation continued in the higher reaches of Majalta and Billawar across Udhampur and Kathua districts following reports of suspicious movement.
The joint operation, involving Army personnel, including para commandos, and police, began on Monday evening in the forest areas of Soan, Khuban, Chore and Nagan in Majalta, and Sadrouta, Bhed and Balore in Kathua district.
No contact had been established with the suspected individuals so far, officials said.
In a separate incident, Army personnel detected two rusted landmines near the border fence in the Basoni area of Mendhar sector in Poonch on Tuesday morning during track construction work.
Army experts subsequently destroyed both explosive devices in a controlled explosion, officials said.
More than a dozen landmines have been detected and defused by the Army in the area over the past week, they added.
