The investment plans were approved by the National Steering Committee (NSC) at its sixth meeting held in New Delhi on October 16 under the chairpersonship of Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The approval comprises Rs. 240 crore for the Jammu ITI cluster and Rs. 235.41 crore for the Srinagar cluster. Each cluster will include five government ITIs, with one institution functioning as the hub and four others as associated institutes.
The Jammu cluster will be implemented in partnership with Eagle Infra India Limited. Government ITI Jammu will serve as the hub institution, with ITIs at R.S. Pura, Nowshera, Samba and Kathua forming the associated network.
The Srinagar cluster will be developed in partnership with Inderdeep Infra India Limited. Government ITI Srinagar will function as the hub, supported by ITIs at Ganderbal, Kangan, Budgam and Charar-i-Sharief.
The initiative aims to modernise workshops and training facilities, provide access to advanced equipment, strengthen practical instruction and promote vocational programmes aligned with industry requirements.
The investment is expected to improve the quality and relevance of technical education, strengthen industry linkages and equip trainees with skills suited to emerging employment opportunities and changing workforce requirements.
The achievement reflects the efforts of the Skill Development Department under the guidance of Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and the leadership of Administrative Secretary Kumar Rajeev Ranjan in advancing the proposal and coordinating with the Government of India.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the initiative, acknowledging the Union Government's support in strengthening the skill development ecosystem and expanding opportunities for young people.
The PM-SETU investment is expected to provide fresh impetus to vocational training across the participating districts and contribute to building a skilled workforce capable of meeting the evolving needs of industry.
The approval marks a significant step towards strengthening technical education infrastructure and improving youth employability in Jammu and Kashmir.
